Tuesday Tunes: Diabeetus
Jul 22
i always knew Wilford Brimley had skillz … but i never knew he had mad rap skillz …
that was for you, Neil Greathouse. holla.
in all my years of playing soccer i don’t ever remember getting hit in the face. now there were definitely plenty of times where i took one in the gut or in the nards … but never a full-on face shot like this …

i’m betting that we won’t see this dude at the Olympics in a few weeks …

ouch. in your face.
Friday Fun: RagDoll Cannon
Jul 18
does anyone even like these “Friday Fun” posts? oh well. i do.
so being the big kid i am … and seeing as how i’m addicted to the internet … i constantly find simple little web games to waste a few minutes here and there. no, not while i’m at work. i’d never do that. ha. whatever … you do it too. we all need to give our brains a rest sometimes, right?
anyways. so today’s bit of fun is like a lot of the other games i’ve seen out there lately. it’s based on simple physics. and what better way to do that than to shoot stickmen out of a cannon? yep. RagDoll Cannon is all about shooting as many stickmen as it takes to hit the target box. some levels are easy and some require you to move other objects before hitting the target (rectangle with the word “here” in the middle).

so what are you waiting for? play RagDoll Cannon.
In My Ears
Jul 17
just putting this post together reminds me of how absolutely random i am about music. i’ve always been that way. and i love it. i like a little bit of everything and i constantly flip between different genres. heck … life sure would be boring if i stuck with only one type of music like some people i know.
so here are 8 fantastic albums that have been filling my ears the past few weeks. left to right and top to bottom … Flobots, Duffy, Jason Mraz, Jamie Lidell, My Morning Jacket, Bon Iver, Girl Talk, and Vampire Weekend.

100 Push Ups
Jul 16
how many push ups can you do at one time? no, not during one workout over a number of sets. i’m talking about one straight set. as in … you get on the floor … start doing the ups and downs … and go until you drop. how many? probably not as many as you think.
some people totally suck at push ups. me? well, they’ve always been pretty easy for me. so my guess after finding HundredPushUps.com today was 45 … or maybe 50. nope. but i did bang out 35 when i hit the gym this afternoon. not bad at all for a 34-year-old with brutal arthritis, huh?

so i’ve decided to start the 100 push ups training program. i thought about joining Carlos and Jonathan as they both train for marathons … but i hate running. and i suck at it. my cardio endurance has never been good … even as a kid during all of those years playing soccer. but since i already workout 3 or 4 times a week, i’ll just add push ups to my regular routines. day 1 is always chest and triceps. day 2 is always back and biceps. and day 3 is always legs and shoulders. each with a day of rest in between. then i start that same program over the following week. oh … and about 6 months ago i started doing tons of abdominal exercises EVERY time i’m at the gym. i’ve noticed a huge difference there. and now i’ll be doing push-ups EVERY time. oh boy. this should be interesting.
so who’s with me? no … don’t try to give me the excuse that you don’t have time to workout. you do have a floor in your house, right? yep. and two arms, right? doh … i hope you do. if so, then you’re all set. the whole program is set at 6 weeks and should take a max of about 30 minutes per week. easy.
my big goal is to make a little video showing my 100 push ups in a row when i reach that point … and you’ll get to see it right here. hopefully in about 6 weeks. so one more time … are you with me? bring it. sissies.
i can’t say that i love the entire album by Bat For Lashes, but i definitely dig this song. and once again … i discovered them by running across this video a few months ago. it’s a super simple idea for a music video, but i think it’s really cool. enjoy …
The Big Picture
Jul 14
i recently found an incredible new blog called The Big Picture. so i just had to share it with you guys. it’s from the folks at The Boston Globe and it features galleries of large, high quality photos related to a specific news story. today’s post is on the 2008 Tour de France. here are a couple of my favorites, but be sure to check out all 18 beautiful shots …

here’s a wild shot from last Friday’s post about Running with the Bulls in Spain …

and here’s a really cool photo from a recent post about Anti-Terrorism Exercises in China as they prepare for the Olympics next month …

the photos i’ve posted here on my blog do not do justice for how incredible they look on The Big Picture blog … since they’re a heck of a lot larger. so be sure to check it out.
Why Didn’t I Think of That?
Jul 09
i’m a designer. have been for the past 12 years. in fact … i get paid real money to be creative. so when i find stuff like this … i always think the same dang thing.
Dress For Dinner Napkins … why didn’t i think of that?

Pick Your Nose Party Cups … why didn’t i think of that?

brilliant. i would totally use those napkins and cups if i had my own restaurant.
one of the bands i’ve really been diggin’ lately is Vampire Weekend. i discovered them while channel flippin’ a couple weeks ago. they were being interviewed about their debut self-titled album … and they were explaining how cool it was to pull off this one-shot cinematic video …
that was a pretty rad music video, huh? and the song rocks.
Jedi Gym
Jul 07
oh man. this is the funniest thing i’ve ever seen. okay … that’s a bit of a stretch. but i did find myself laughing out loud a few times. this video is very well done … and pretty dang funny too. enjoy …
“hanging pictures is very hard.”
